Welcome to our blog,
FROGS ARE GREEN!

For over 200 million years, ponds, marshes, grasslands, and rain forests have come alive with the calls of frogs. Yet these remarkable and colorful animals are declining at such a rapid rate that they are being called the Earth’s next dinosaurs. According to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, a third of the world’s amphibian species are threatened with extinction. To read more, click here!

Name that Frog!

The Prince’s Rainforest Project is looking for suggestions for a name for its frog mascot!

I need a name!

I need a name!

You can submit a name on the Name the Frog page and it will be posted on the website. Susan came up with a great name: Prince Greenway.

Check out this video, in which various people, including the Dalai Lama, come up with possible names. I like Harrison Ford’s suggestion—Charlie (after a certain HRH, the Prince of Wales).

    What an excellent blog, I’ve added your feed to my RSS reader. :-)

  5. Deb says:

    Morton! I’m going with Morton :)

  6. admin says:

    I like that one, especially as I took five years of Latin in school!

  7. I would like to nominate the Name:
    VAIS
    standing for Viridis = Green
    Anura = Frog
    Imber = Rain
    Silvae = Forests

  8. admin says:

    That’s a lovely name…

  9. I suggested the name Shree Mahatma Rana. i.e. Tile is royal, Mahatma means great one, and Rana is the Latin name for frog

  10. admin says:

    Nice….and we all know what happens when we kiss a frog!

  11. admin says:

    I like this one, too!

  12. admin says:

    Frederick the Frog–I like that…very distinguished.

  13. Everybody knows that showing love for a frog, like giving a kiss, can be very rewarding: something beautiful can be the result! So my suggestion would definetly be: KISS.
    With this name all the singing frogs will remind everybody about the potential the embody for all of us. KISS!

  14. eileen says:

    Frederick, pronounced FRED-e-rick and not FRED-rick. It has a Germanic origin and it means “peaceful ruler”, so no title is necessary.

  15. admin says:

    Yes, those would certainly be appropriate names!

  16. Veshengro says:

    Hmm, I would suggest “Frogger” or “Prince”, from the fairy tale of the frog that become a prince when kissed. I think the story was the “Golden Orb” or such.

    Rgds,

  17. Lubna says:

    Well, if one does not think of him being a member of the amphibian royalty, I would go for:
    Jumpy the Forest Frog;
    Mr. Croak for Hope;
    Best,

  18. H. Abillama says:

    How about Charlie?

  19. Keith says:

    all these mamby pamby names are so lame. we are talking serious species decimation here.
    I propose the name “CROAK” to signify the death of all the rain forest creatures.

  20. admin says:

    Yes, that’s true! He or she might be a member of the amphibian nobility…

  21. Kim Lorang says:

    Well, since it is a project by Prince Charles and since the frog is an instrument of salvation for the rainforest, he or she should have a name with a title… such as Sir Burpsalot or Lady Ribbitina
